How To Be Happy and Content With Your Body and Mind

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and said to yourself ‘hey, you look gorgeous today!’. You may have finished a challenging job and then congratulated yourself for the hard work you put into it? Did you take the time to reflect on all your (many good points)?

It was probably quite a while, are we right? In fact, the chances are high that you’ve never really done that kind of thing at all!

That is because we all tend to be really good at putting ourselves down, rather than lifting ourselves up. But as the old saying goes ‘how can you expect anybody else to love you, if you don’t love yourself?’

Take care of yourself

Taking care of yourself isn’t just about looking after your skin, or teeth or hair. It is about self-love too.

So, how do you show yourself some of this? Well, the first three questions we asked are good hints. Stop looking in the mirror and focusing on your eye bags, or wrinkles, or blemishes. For every negative you see, balance it with something positive. So ‘the bags under my eyes are a little big today, but my eyebrows are amazing!” Pay attention to your best attributes!

Celebrate yourself!!

If your friend got a new job, you’d give them a big congratulations. Do the same for yourself! Treat yourself to a back massage at the end of a stressful week, or pick up your favorite snack for the commute home. As for remembering your good points? Learn to recite positive affirmations to yourself. These can really help boost your body, mind, and general spirit.

Be honest to yourself

However, taking care of ourselves also means being honest. While it may not be exactly what you want to hear, it is important that you listen! You may have certain things you want to improve about yourself in order to feel happier and more content. If these are founded in reality (not in unfounded insecurities), then have the confidence to make a change!

Learn the difference between needs and desire

We want many things, but we need very little. Unfortunately, we often confuse wants with needs, and this brings a lot of frustration to our daily lives. Because too often we desire things that are futile, useless and that also require us not to satisfy our needs.

For example, in order to satisfy certain desires, we take time away from sleep, which is an essential need. We eat things out of desire and not out of need, and our health suffers. This is not about living an ascetic’s life, but rather a life that combines ‘less’ with ‘better’. Because happiness is not having lots of things and doing lots of things, it is having little and doing little, but with immense joy!

Have a goal

Having a goal or a purpose will keep you content regardless of the circumstances. Why?

Because when life presents you with challenges and obstacles, you will be better able to overcome them. Because when life presents you with challenges and obstacles, you will be better able to overcome them.

Indeed, by having a direction to follow, you will be less upset and tossed about by the unpredictability of life. A goal does not have to be big. It can be small, like running a marathon. Remember that you are on earth to be happy! Choose a goal, something that makes you happy.

Be better

Another big challenge may be if you think you need to change your part of your personality. Of course, you should be you. After all, everyone else is taken! However, there are always little tweaks we can make to become better people. Not so great at listening? Make an active effort to talk less and listen more when spending time with friends. Quick to anger when something doesn’t go your way? Learn some relaxation techniques and some more effective ways to get that frustration out. Not only will you be making those around you happier, but you’ll be making yourself happier too.
