August Zone Update

Well, we are a week away from the end of August…as in next Monday.  Where has it gone?  I’m not really sure!  If you’ll remember at the beginning of August I set my cleaning zone as the pantry, laundry room, and refrigerator/freezer (inside and out).  I’ve gotten a lot accomplished, but not everything on my list.  The last thing I have to do is go through my outside freezer and count up what we have left.  This will really come in handy when I plan menus.  I am officially out of chicken.  Boo.  However, the Zaycon Fresh chicken order is still open.  I’ve ordered 80 pounds and I can’t wait for it to arrive.

Here is the laundry/storage room before:

Now, here it is after:

Much better, right?  I cleaned the baseboards, washed all the dog’s bedding, and reorganized the shelves.  I always put things back where they belong, but it just seems to get messy with 5 people using it.

Now for the refrigerator…before:

And after:

You can’t really tell a difference, but I took everything out and wiped down the shelves and drawers.  It looks so much nicer.

And the pantry before:

And the pantry after:

Is that not delightful?!?  Each time I walk past the pantry I open the door just to look at it.  Full disclosure, I took a picture of this and sent it to my running partner.  We both have a shared love of an organized pantry.

Each month I try to focus on the zone that I’ve set for myself.  However, this month I took my youngest to his first day of school.  Instead of sitting at home and crying I decided to have some therapy.  Some people shop, some go to the spa, some read…not me…I organize.  I find it very relaxing and satisfying.  Here are two projects from the playroom.

Can you breath a little better?!?  I know I can!

Now, for project two in the playroom (i.e.-the room that was not on the cleaning plan, but got a good organizing because I didn’t want to sit at home and cry.)

Before:  (Have mercy!)

One day I came home to a garage that looked like this and it wasn’t even on the list for this month.  Fred caught the bug and it made me smile.  I don’t have any before pictures, but believe me when I say, it.was.a.mess!

For the August Zone projects I never spent more than 15-30 minutes at a time.  It really does not take that long to clean out your refrigerator.  It really does not that take long to clean out your pantry.  The thing that takes the longest is like my blinds…dreading it and getting started.  Once I have a plan I’m good to go.  I still lack cataloging all the meat in my freezer.  I may get to this or I may not.  That’s the things about my plan…it’s MY plan.  If I don’t get to something I can do it next month or I don’t have to do it at all.  The world will still turn.  The sun will rise and set.  God is still on the throne.  I really don’t say this casually.  There was a time in my life where I lived and breathed by getting my list checked off.  In the end, they don’t matter at all, except to make me feel more at peace.  And, of course, ultimately, the only thing that brings real peace is walking daily with the Prince of Peace.

Are you following a monthly plan to clean or organize?  I’d love to hear if you’re making progress and where you’re working!
